About the Role:
As the Legal and Advocacy Program Associate, you will assist and manage the execution of activities related to Legal and Advocacy issues by supporting Human Rights objectives in line with Amnesty International principles. You will provide expertise in order to strengthen the organization’s capacity to monitor and advocate for the respect of Human Rights at the national level.
Reports to the “Legal and Advocacy” Program Coordinator.
Your responsibilities include:
- Analysis of the national legislation through the scope of Human Rights and drafting of recommendations for its improvement.
- Monitoring the international legal developments in the area of human rights (UN, Council of Europe, EU levels etc.).
- Monitoring initiatives of state authorities/ non-governmental organizations on human rights issues and propose concrete actions in conformity with AIM’s policies and priorities.
- Maintaining and enhancing the network of legal professionals that share the values and principles of Amnesty International in their everyday practice.
- Contributing to the consolidation of means of communication and cooperation with AIM’s partners.
- Researching and preparing materials relevant for the undertaken tasks, as required by the Program Coordinator
- Assist the Program Coordinator in the development of annual activity based on expected year-end outputs, as well as assisting in developing periodical project and other reports.
To qualify for this position, you have to possess the following skills & qualifications:
- You identify with Amnesty International mission and vision, goals and values.
- You possess a Degree in Law, or comparable qualification (i.e. Human Rights master’s studies)
- You have profound knowledge of the area of expertise and have sound experience with comparable tasks.
- Your performance is defined by advanced critical and legal reasoning skills.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills are your assets.
- You are able to express yourself fluently in English, Romanian, and Russian, both in writing and verbally.
- You are creative, engaging and committed to initiate projects, manage them to a high standard and bring them to a successful conclusion.
